THE PROFESSIONAL BOXER

aka "The Pro-Boxer" or "The Boxer"

The Pro-Boxer came to life about the same time as the Wedgies. Pam was trying to make a box using my carpenter's square and was having a problem keeping everything in place so she could make some tacks. When I put my two cents in she just said "OK smart$#@ - you do it. Well, I did but it took me far longer than was necessary. So I told Pam she just needed a fixture. Thus, I designed the Pro-Boxer. You can use it to make anything square or rectangular.

Not only does the Pro-Boxer align your sides squarely but, because of its design, it prevents you from aligning the vertical edges of two sides that are not cut square. If two sides are not cut square, you will see a gap between the inner edges. If it's small, just ignore it and fill it in with solder.

Without the Pro-Boxer, your natural tendency is to align the vertical edges of sides even though they may not be cut square. Then your box will be wobbly and you'll have a terrible time trying to put on a base or a lid. That can't happen when you use the Pro-Boxer.

These pictures show the basics of what the Pro-Boxer does and does so well. The three sides of the Boxer are mutually perpendicular, or if you want to use real high tech words, they are "mutually orthogonal."  Click on any image to enlarge it.

When you place two sides of your box against the sides of the Boxer, they are square with each other. You can then tack them together on the top and the outside of the seam. (See the photo at the top of the page and top right) Move the two sides 90 degrees and tack on a third side and so on until   your box has all four sides tacked.

Then add the base (middle left) and tack it to the center of each side. Once you've done that, the box is stable (it won't deform). There is nothing on the market that even comes close to doing what the Pro-Boxer does.

When your box and base are tacked, you can use a set Wedgies to support it at any angle you need to finish solder the seams. You can see how the Pro-Boxer and the Wedgies (or Wedgie Jr's.) work together to make your job easier.

Just to give you an idea of how easy and quickly you can assemble a box, consider this. When we teach our box making classes, Pam tacks together all four sides of the box in less than 90 seconds, and that's while she's explaining each step as she goes. Tacking on the base might add another minute.

You'll be surprised at how easily and quickly the process is.
